What actually moves the price

• Length of the run. A 6 m section under a walkway and a 25 m lateral to the street are different projects.
• Diameter. Larger pipe means more liner or larger pulling equipment.
• Depth. Deeper pits take longer, need shoring, and cost more to reinstate.
• Pipe condition. Heavy roots, scale or partial collapse add cleaning and risk.
• Accessibility. A usable cleanout versus a pit inside a finished basement is a large difference.
• Preparation and cleaning. Root cutting, descaling and jetting are real line items.
• Lining versus bursting. Different equipment, different crew time.
• Number of access points. Each pit adds excavation and reinstatement.
• Surface restoration. Interlock, concrete, sod, asphalt and planting.
• Local market. Labour rates, permit fees and municipal requirements differ across Canada.

• Check whether cleaning, locating and inspection are included or extra
• Check whether surface restoration is included, and to what finish
• Ask who pays for permits and municipal inspections
• Ask what happens, and what it costs, if a collapse is found mid-project
• Ask for post-installation camera footage as part of the price

Where the savings usually come from

Trenchless methods rarely win on pipework alone. They win when the alternative would remove a driveway, a patio or mature landscaping. If your lateral runs through open lawn at shallow depth, price open-cut too — it may well be the sensible choice.
